The idea of enhancing a mitzvah through aesthetics is called Hiddur Mitzvah. Hiddur Mitzvah means making an effort to create or acquire the most beautiful ceremonial objects possible to enrich the religious observance with aesthetic dimension.
The concept of Hiddur Mitzvah comes from Rabbi Ishmael's comment on the verse "this is my God and I will glorify Him" (Exodus 15:2)
How do we add glory to our creator? We shall glorify him in the way of mitzvot. We shall prepare before him a beautiful Shabbat, a beautiful Shabbat table, with a beautiful challah cover, and a kiddush cup. This act of hiddur whether it be on Shabbat, yom tov, or daily rituals is a great mitzvah to perform to honor our creator.
